WVU officials blamed for coach leaving
This is the Post Gazette article that that WBOY article refers to.
While coaches shouldn't have too much pull on University policy, the things purportedly asked for by Coach Rod seem fair. He wanted minor things which the University didn't come through with in his contract extension. This means he does have a case for going to trial about his buyout- if his contract wasn't honored then he shouldn't have to pay the 4 million back to the University. Contracts have to be met by both sides- and while what he asked for was minimal, judicially it still applies.
Personally no amount of mudslinging back and forth is going to make me gain back that bit of respect I had for him as a coach (Hint hint- I didn't respect him much as a coach in the first place) for leaving his players the eve before possibly their biggest bowl game since his tenure- but the legality of contracts does leave some bitter tastes in everyone's mouths.
When it comes down to it people will get pissed when someone does something wrong but when they bring it into the courts thats when people get political- and I think they miss the point. Rich Rod LEFT HIS TEAM the night before battle. They could be going into slaughter- but yet the players themselves are even the focus of the bureaucratic mess which takes thier mind off the game.
I guess my two cents basically is, if his contract wasn't honored- he shouldn't have to pay- but he is still a chickenshit bastard.
