personally I'd like to see us play Ohio State for the recognition. People would give WVU more respect with a win at the national championship versus Ohio State because they are a much more recognized team and they are heralded more than MIZZ. We have the pride of West Virginia but Ohio State's band alone was a national champ.
We might have a better chance to take home the title if we play MIZZ, but then again the stakes are higher with Ohio State. The safe play, I think, is to root for Arkansas to win....I've seen PITT play last week, and judging from their offense, we should be able to beat them, barring some cataclysmic event. So really the question here is whether or not we want an easy win at the championship or whether we want a regal game.
People are disgusted with the BCS because all the big name teams that analysts were picking to win ended up losing. These people feel that the pagentry of the BCS is lost. Can we redeem that sense of pagentry by playing Ohio State? Yes. But should it matter? No. WVU doesn't control who they play in the BCS bowls, so for people to not give credit to us for being a top contender is showing thier conventionality. Tell Pat White to be conventional and he'll take the ball and zig-zag back and forth all over the field, making linebackers eat dirt as he scores touchdown after touchdown. If people don't appreciate that in itself, then they are not true football fans. They are critics.
So, if you find yourself ajar from all the naysayers saying this or that about the West Virginia University Mountaineers on game day, just keep doing what you've always done.....cheer for your team and let other fans know what people are saying- and root for the underdog, because to a lot of people, thats what we exactly are. |
