Former WVU Student Revives Old T-Shirt Design

MORGANTOWN -- Jeff Moores has been busy since his freshman days at West Virginia University. He lives in New York, has a family, and has worked for "The New Yorker," "Time," Burger King and Cinemax.
But his past recently caught up with him when a friend asked him to reprint his classic Sunnyside T-Shirt. Now the shirts are licensed collegiate apparel, available for sale in stores around Morgantown.
Chris Belt, who works at the Book Exchange, says the T-shirts have been a big hit.
"Delivers them himself," said Belt. "He makes himself known when he comes in."
Belt says he hears a different story every time someone buys one.
"If it's a kid, it's to the effect of, 'My father talked about this guy he went to school with and now he's a big artist and draws all these pictures of Sunnyside and Mountaineer Field,' and stuff like that, or it's an older gentleman who wants to see what his old friend is up to now who used to be an artist," explained Belt. "There's always a connection. It's a small world." On Game Day you can find Moores selling his t-shirts in front of the Ronald McDonald House. One dollar of the proceeds from the sale of each T-shirt goes to basic funding for the House, which relies on the community for support.
Moores added a new design after noticing that High Street had grown to become the main drag for student recreation, according to Belt.
The Mountaineer Football shirts feature a crowd of tiny fans, each unique and different from the rest. The Stadium shirts include Game Day staples, like tailgating, self-proclaimed biggest-fan-ever Big Cat ...and Harri?
"Whatever that is," Belt laughed. "That's the big question: Who's Harri and where's he at? He's on there, you just have to find him."
Moores' shirts will be on sale this weekend at the Connecticut game, and each game for the remainder of the year.
