Oil is only 4 bucks a gallon over there? lucky you! lol. Iraq is about geopolitics adams, its about securing a supply of oil now that the US can no longer trust the Saudi's. Thats what your country is getting out of this - not cheap oil.
"Of course the rest of the world was behind us after 9/11, how could they not be? There isn't really too much the media can do to turn that against the US".
Is there a conspiracy in the media against the US?
jratt2 (October 6, 2008 at 5:22 pm)
Exactly, US foreign policy is in its own interest: why did the kurds take to the hills in 1991? Because they feared they would be gassed like they had been in 1988? Who gave Iraq the gas? The US. US Foreign Policy has nothing to do with freedom, democracy or "stopping mass murder". Its about doing things in its best interest. If everyone else is doing that too, why not call it what it is?

Of course the rest of the world was behind us after 9/11, how could they not be? There isn't really too much the media can do to turn that against the US. Well if Iraq was for oil and monetary gain, why does it cost four bucks a gallon here now? Iraq is running a surplus while we are running a deficit. We are really receiving nothing from this war. It is time we actually start taking some of their profits from oil.

Not everything is black and white. Sometimes the US has to choose the lesser of two evils because we have no choice. What is wrong with a country doing things that are in their best interest? Does Ireland not do that?

Yes the US has gotten rid of mass murderers, but it has also propped up\supported mass murderers when it suits US interests - Saddam for example. Don't blame the media in other countries adams7260 - in my country the US held the moral hight ground after 9/11 and it was not Afghanistan but Iraq which turned people against this administration. Based on previous knowledge of US foreign policy, any intelligent person can see Iraq is an exercise in oil-based self interest not stopping mass murder. |
