I just listened to it, and had to restart it. I feel like such a dick now...I really am ashamed of myself.

Goest7 Please do. I think you'll come away with a different appreciation for his abilities. MIDNIGHT is a perfect example of an instrumental for those who think that Hendrix never stepped away from pentatonic blues scale soloing. His modal phrasing in that tune alone is mind blowing. Completely original phrasing, totally off the cuff in a simple studio jam. Yet it's a masterpiece. Vai said of it, "It's the only tune where the guitar can be out of tune, yet you think it's better that way."

I will admit, after viewing your favorites, I realize that I'm going to lose this argument big fucking time...I will also admit that my Hendrix vocabulary is limited...the only non-popular song of his that I enjoy is Machine Gun. So, I will henceforth shut my mouth, and give those suggestions a listen.

Goest, Have you ever listened to Hendrix? I mean aside from the typical stuff U hear on classic rock. "so drowned in wah and distortion, that one could barely comprehend what he was doing." HUH?? Give a listen to MIDNIGHT as well as DRIVIN SOUTH on my favorites page. You comments really sound to me like those of a person who simply hasn't experienced the full vocabulary of Jimi's playing. As for your comments re a person with 3 months experience...It's been 40 yrs, nobodys sounded like him.
Goest7 (October 12, 2008 at 2:29 pm)
You too have a point. He did take chances a hell of a lot, but those chances were usually so drowned in wah and distortion, that one could barely comprehend what he was doing. Hell, give a person who has about three months experience on the guitar a wah and a fuzz-box and they're bound to create something remotely similar...But, and I can't stress this enough, I have nothing but respect for Hendrix. He proved that with guitar there are little, if no, limitations to what one can do.

Goest7, Hendrix's technique was archaic? Actually his technique was revolutionary. Funny how some people deem Hendrix overrated sloppy. A silly commentary based simply on the fact that @ times his picking wasn't clean. Yet those people overlook the fact that he was ALWAYS pushing it live. ALWAYS taking chances in new directions. When U listen to his ability to control manipulate sound, w/ only a Strat a wah a fuzzbox, he's completely unmatched in his abilities on the electric guitar.

i agreee on everything u said. hendrix is very good, try puttig him in other styles, hes really good a what he does tho.

The guy does have a point though. Hendrix is a tad overrated in some aspects. The fact that every non-guitar playing human being references either Hendrix or Halen when one plays guitar, it kinda gets annoying. Yes, Hendrix redefined what you could do with the instrument, but his technique was...archaic. However, it's still a joy to listen too. And I will admit I take this version over Hendrix's any day.
