J3R3M7 totally agree mate.When I first heard Just For a Day and the opening bars of Spanish Air I was like fucking hell thats brilliant,listened to it twice mate before I listened to the rest of the album and then I heard Catch the Breeze and that was enough.I wacked it off the turntable and ran round to my mates house declaring to them 'Fuck you have to hear this'.6 of us sat in stunned silence with our fringes and baggy tops and denims and listened to Just for a Day.That was 1991 Happy days

yep i agree that slowdive are the best shoegaze ever but ride are still up there and sitting on glastonbury tor listening to them on a star filled night was amazing and something that will stay in my mind always

I've fallen asleep to Souvlaki nearly every single night for the last few years. There is something about that album that just places you on the line between this world and dreams...And who doesn't love Rachel Goswell? I've even got all her solo work...fucking beautiful singer she is.

Well Ride were about songs and My Bloody Valentine were about sonics so this comparing is about as useless as comparing David Bowie to Brian Eno; if you have a strong connection with one of them you are bound to have a weaker with the other one

I like Ride more than MBV, personally. MBV had a terrific sound, but that's it. Ride actually wrote songs, rather than just recreating the sounds of dying dinosaurs using thousands of dollars worth of equipment. Both great, but Ride should get more respect. Too often these days are MBV seen as the only shoegaze band worth listening to, which is completely untrue.
