How did my statement sound racist? You are the one who sounds racist by making those generalizations. As a Black person, I know that what you stated was a hasty generalization, and it wasn't a slight one. I know many Black folks with traditional names or names originating from various countries just like there are many non-Black people with names they may or may not be original as well.

A slight generalisation yes, but true. I know many black folks who have been sat there ages trying to make a name up for their offspring by attempting to join both parents name together etc. Your comment sounded like one from an ignorant racist.

Black people and made-up names? 1. Not all Black people have non-traditional names 2. Some non-Black people have non-traditional names 3. Many of these so-called "made-up"/non-traditional names are names from various origins that you are just not familiar with (e.g., Brazil, Africa, Latin America, Russia, Turkey, etc.) and thus you think they are just made up. What an ignorant statement you made!
