its true that it wouldnt make sense him being sonny since al pacino was older

It worked out for the better, Coppola probably knew then that he was better suited for the role as the young Vito in part 2.

De niro just wasn't old enough to play that role. He is younger than al pacino who would be playing his youngest kid brother. |
