Chill out! Go read at wikipedia. The Next gen gripen is far ahead in time, and is irrelevant to the discussion we had. We argued over which plane Norway should have chosen, as they announced a few days ago that they have decided to go for the F-35. When I'm talking about "no other versions", keep in mind that the F-35's three versions are very different. The differences between the JAS-39 versions will not be as drastically different as with the F35 (STOVL/CTOL/Carrier).

Nemesis nips at the heel of hubris. When you're someone like you, you should keep your words soft, that way they hurt less when they come back to bite you in the ass. There is indeed another Gripen coming online, and they've already had their first test flight back in May. It is known as the Gripen NG (next-generation), or "super gripen", making your first statement false. Furthermore, there are already several variants of the gripen, making your second statement false.

There is no upcoming super gripen! You obviously don't know what you're talking about. JAS-39 Gripen is the only gripen there's ever been, and the only one there will ever be. The previous SAAB-plane was the Viggen, which was beaten by the F-16 when Norway replaced it's F-5s. And yes, i would rather hide like a coward in a F-35 than not being able to defend my country in a Gripen.

All aspect IR missiles of the last generation are good, previous generations wheren't that great. Either way you have to get within range and obtain lock on the IR source before you fire. You can't engage IR missiles BVR, thus radar is still very important. Not only the aircraft's own radar but the AWACS and ground radar too. Read up on strike packs and you'll see that for one strike plane 2+ are in support roles.

There is an F35 carrier based, and probably the same or different variant for the marines. I assume it won't take much to go from CAP to CAS. Didn't read anything on f 22. Also...people have no idea how hard and expensive system integration is...my hat off for Lockheed and any other airplane manufacturers.

we are not talking about the present gripen, but the upcomming super gripen, thats a entirely differnt plane, the jsf is not usefull for norwegian needs witch is air to air, who says that?. the american military. so you will hide like a coward huh?.
