Why do people insist on this crap? The native american guy said Spike's star was about to die. That star at the end was clearly meant to be Spike's.
The ending is so amazing BECAUSE Spike died. Spike is one of my favorite characters of all time and I like that he died, it was a fitting end to the series. Seeing him alive would ruin the power and emotion of the show's finale.

Sorry, he died. Earlier in the episode the native american guy said that when a person dies, their guardian star dies with them and he said that Spike's star was about to die. After the last of the credits roll, you see a star sputter and die.
