They probably didn't make an announcement over the PA system. I'm sure everyone heard what happened as soon as they turned on their car radios.

That's how big Howard Cosell was back then. ABC let him make the official announcement of one of the biggest tragedies in our lifetime.

his comments were of a juvenile nature so i assumed he was young or like i suggested just a moron.I cant see why you would take it so personally.

Exactly, he will always be alive as long as we listen to his music, and same with George.

I watched that game, and that's where I heard the news. My wife (at the time) had gone to bed, and I let out a primal scream that woke her and our little daughter. I remember my daughter crying loudly as a result. I don't remember much else, except for the world's outpouring of grief. There was no cable then, so you couldn't flip over to the news. I still feel his loss today.

I was working on the Buffalo subway construction project, getting ready for the midnight shift, having something to eat before leaving my grandmother's house. I was just catching up on the game. I heard this and my brain just shut down. I honestly do not remember the next several weeks. I went numb. I just went through the motions of life, like a zombie. I was 20 years old then, yet watching this made me numb again at 48. Memories, unlike your loved ones, do not go away. They make you humble.
