As far as I know, no she didn't, no abuse or anything, but she looked up to him in a major way and he died when she was 8 as a result of diabetes complications, which he had misdiagnosed as something else, so she always blamed him for not diagnosing it correctly, because his complications were perfectly treatable.

Some have this inherent urge to have a free and independent existence under the facade of wanting to be a little below the line that calls itself "Control". And some of us are so mystified by pain,that in an attempt to unfold its mystery we keep involving ourselves in more misery ... its like a researcher delving deeper and deeper into different levels of something.Its an adaptation;we learn to enjoy it because there is more and more mystery about misery.Mere curiosity!

surmised? yeah well done there. In this poem if she is refering to her feelings towards her German father, the resentment she feels is shown by her referance to the holocaust. The black man is refering to ted hughes. Nothing racist about it. You must be pretty stupid not to know that.
