well everyone interprets it differently, but i think morrisey is singing about being trapped by closeted homosexuality. The girl in the song is putting sexual pressure ("give in to lust") on him which he doesn't want to reciprocate. The lines "I'm not the man you think i am" and "she's too rough and i'm too delicate" suggest this is because he's gay. also the line "i could have been wild and i could have been free, but nature played this trick on me" sounsd like it could be about being gay

I dont know if you people see this song like i do. Pretty girls always go with mean and good looking guys (more or less) "Im not the man you think i am" Thats, for me, the explanation of being another kind of person, i dont know, a darker one, a hater of superficiality, i guess, maybe because ive felt that feeling.

I think one would be hard-pressed to be able to pull the feat that Morrisey accomplished with the Smiths by being "ambiguous" and cool at the same time. Different time, different situation, but at the same time... classic, trend-setting music.

Indie is a shortened version of "independant" - anything that can be classed as independant is "indie". Nowadays the term indie has become something thats deemed "cool" and basically the people who think its cool to be "indie" are the complete opposite of the original term. I've used it in my name due to this simple fact, as a pun. It's a horrid term to use. As for a genre on The Smiths, they are what you want them to be, they were virtually everything :-) Peace to you

Punk also isn't a musical style, neither is pop or 'alternative'. But sometimes these labels are helpsome to give the music some sort of direction or label. That's all.
