This opening sequence touched me so much
One of my favorites!

The song is "Try A Little Tenderness". I guess it fits the delicate air re-fueling operation.

That's what I always thought about the disconnect...
I too got to ride in a KC-135 and watched F-16's from my own squadron refueled! It too was a awesome experiance because of this scene!

Along with the music being called 'Try a little tenderness"!

This is one of the best movies of all time. By the way, do you know the name of this piece?

The photage in this sequence was stock from real re-fueling operations. What may not be apparent to non-flyers, is at the end was an un-intended break away, which results in the B-52 dropping down and back to re-set up for the hook up. Many years ago I got to sit in the back of a KC-135 refueling 52's out of Castle AFB...an amazing moment in my life becuase of this movie!

There was also the distinct probability that the other reason why the film was banned for a length of time was because it really shows the detailled and intricate workings of the B52 bomber. After having watched the film,I was that better instructed into the piloting and weapon systems operators duties than anything that was then available in print.Imagine if the film had leaked out to say,Soviet aerial technicians. They would have easilly acquired all the tactical ways of their counterparts.

I've always enjoyed this theme, it goes along perfectly with the aeronautical intercourse between tanker and bomber...... |
