The crewmembers aboard the space station took a short break Saturday to get a look at the storm from their vantage point. Even from space, the storm expected to reach the Gulf of Mexico Aug. 21 and gain strength as a potential Cat 5 storm, impresses the crew with its size.

But isn't it weird that despite that the money was there (maybe the mayor didn't have funding, but your country can definatelly afford it) and the knowledge to protect New Orleans (we are the perfect example) nothing was done? This wasn't just a natural disaster, it was one that could be prevented. But I guess like everywere else a disaster had to happen first, before action was taken.

I understand what you're saying - But who would be held responsible. Say some hurricane expert puts together a presentation and walks in front of the Mayor and says "this could happen if we have a hurricane like this". The mayor says we don't have the funding to prepare for some "what if" clause. The storm comes and the city is destroyed. Even if that conversation ever took place noone is going to put blame on a person because of a natural catastrophe. It'd be wildly unfair.
