sure sonic youth are more punk orientated but yet, the riffs are so meldotic like the diamond sea, where the just sail off into a noisy pop floating guitar riffs is reminesent of shoegaze for sure. There were prior shoegaze and in a different continent

It was Richey James Edwards who said they were worse than Hitler, not Nicky Wire. Nicky's a bit of a dick, he criticises the bands that beat them at something, like when Gomez won the Mercury Music Prize (which the Manics were in too), so he criticised them for their lyrics. And when the Arctic Monkeys beat them on the Album charts, he made some comment that he'd prefer Take That to Artic Monkeys. And then there was that thing with Billy Bragg. But I still like the Manics. :D

No other song/video has had the same impact on me like this one did in '91. It's like trying heroine for the first time, getting that ultimate virgin rush, and never quite feeling it the same way again, no matter how good the cut.
