I think Sanders actually brought the goods more consistently than Coltrane 65-67...Coltrane has a lot of "bad" solos on those records. Sanders is a genius, but when Coltrane hit it, like the "Live in Japan" Afro-Blue, he nailed stuff Sanders has never gotten. Those solos are like being born and dying. I heard Sanders do a perfect, "moderate" tenor solo on a bootleg version of "Ole," but most of this stuff doesn't excite-excite me.

Been lucky enough to see Pharoah live in London twice over the last year with this line up. First set was OK but second one was amazing - the energy from this performance reminds me of that and when he gets going really puts you on another plant - and scarily makes it look so easy but with so much energy and emotion. My and my friend thought he was doing stuff even coltrane couldn't have but suppose hes had another 30-40 years on him now! God only knows what coltrane would have been doing now!
