i think emitt is definitely in the top 20 all time RBs, but not in the top 10 in terms of skill and domination

I think Barry is the greatest. He was not only a great rusher. He did great things with less. Lions O-Line was never really good, yet he made those miraculous games. I think he is the best ever... My list goes like this: 1.- Barry Sanders 2.- Walter Payton 3.- Gale Sayers 4.- Emmith Smith 5.- Earl Campbell

My top 5: 1) Walter Payton 2) Barry Sanders 3) Emmitt Smith 4) Earl Campbell 5) Franco Harris...?(not sure on this one. Maybe the spot should be reserved for a future RB.) I actually disagree...Emmitt should be in the conversation. I'm not a fan...I HATE the Cowboys, but he broke the record in his 12th season, then played 2 more with Arizona. He leads the NFL all-time for rushing touchdowns, and the only player with more all-purpose TDs than Smith is Jerry Rice.

emmit smith was great, but he wasnt as domnating as wlater payton or jim brown, rushing yards arent the whole aspect of how good a runningback is, also since he had a great o line i never thought he was that fun to watch, where barry sanders was so elusive he was almost impossible to catch, and walter payton would run with great anticipation and would never avoid contact, emmit would kind of just follow his blockers and just run down the field

Emmit is not even in this conversation. Holding on to take the record from Payton was a disgrace. Sanders could have had it easily had he played more than 10 seasons, but then again he did not play for his own stats. Jim Brown maybe, but these are the only three in this conversation.

A quote from Payton's teammate Steve McMichael:"Most of Walter's career, until they built a team here in the mid-80s, he was running behind an offensive line of a bunch of dockworkers. They couldn't blow a fart out of a paper bag and he was still making yards." So lets stop these stupid comments about how Payton had this great offensive line his whole career and Sanders had nothing because it's just not true.

All of you guys talking about how Payton had a great offensive line are idiots. You know nothing about the teams Payton played on most of his career and are just spitting out the typical "Sanders always played behind the worst offensive lines and every other player played behind great offensive lines" bullshit. The bears teams from the mid 70s to early 80s had god awful offensive lines. Stop commenting on things you have no knowledge of and saying it because other morons are saying it.
