Thanks for your concern. Are you from Okinawa?
I just went back last year to celebrate her Kajimaya(97th birthday, just in case you don't know what it is). I am planning to go back within a couple of years. This video reminds me of good old days in Okinawa. It is so true that there is no place like home.

also i wish my grandmothers and grandfathers lived longer... my grandfathers were murdered by the communists and my grandmothers died the same week... atleast they didnt die in a horrible home, but in eastern slovakia the oldest person since ww2 became 63 years... because of nuclear waste dumped long under the ground... very nice video, people have to stop stressing

the problem in western europe and north america is that people dont take care of the old people, when i get old i dont want to be sent to some home... what gratitude do they show their parents? you take care of your children for 20 years and help them with their problems whenever they need help, and when you need help your children puts you in some home... its cruel!!! this is a problem in the world, im from eastern europe and people that do so against their parents are not respected here

I was stationed in Okinawa.. a total of 2 years. I loved it. I liked to go out in town, off the beaten path and talk to the Okinawas. I hope they survive forever!

I lived on Okinawa for nine years and many times traveled all over the island as well as the surrounding islands. This place is truely a paradise.

It's because some of the recipies are truly traditional and some are invented to suit the European or American taste. I assume that your girlfriend belongs to the younger generation who no longer live on the traditional Okinawan diet. Having lived among old Okinawans, I am familier with all the traditional recipies the book introduces.
Along with their diet, we need to note that their psychological attitudes and traditional support system are the keys to their longer and happier lives.
