We sometimes forget how large our country is and how other people have problems similar to our own. The modern technology allows us to shafre information as never before in history. e are also beginning a battle in Arizona with a mining company and I found your link by accident but was glad I did. My sympathies and best wishes in your battle to save your mountains which are also in more than one way my mountains also. Win , lose or draw, keep fighting.

The answer really is blowing in the wind.
Wind power is now cheaper than coal power.
Live
~ downwind of a wind farm?
~ downwind of a coal mine / coal fired generating plant?
We will run out of coal, but the wind isn't going to stop.
We don't need to take coal out of the ground, destroy the land, pollute the air, make the rain acid, and cause global warming.
We can make hydrogen with excess wind power to burn in old coal power plants in power shortages.
Our answer is blowin' in the wind.

This is a balanced and fair video. I'm from Eastern Kentucky and I've seen the destruction caused by mountain removal. This is an outrageous tragedy and one that everyone who is concerned about our environment should oppose the continuation of this technique of coal retrival.

I know I definitely don't want to put people back to mining underground. What I want is renewable energy sources so my beloved hills will stay clean and beautiful, just like they were when I was young. I want the people of Appalachia to have good jobs that will not endanger them, or cause them such misery. I've had enough of politics as usual where it concerns Appalachia, and I'm standing up for my people.

Actually that flooding is due to warm, moist Gulf air flowing up into Iowa during the winter months, causing heavy snows. When the spring rains came, the oversaturated ground was unable to soak up the moisture. Certain parts of the midwest are prone to this sort of thing. Strip mining is quite different. It disrupts the ability of the land to soak up moisture because when the land is clear cut, vegetation that would normally soak up the moisture is gone, which then causes soil erosion.

It is people like you who want electricity and to put the men all back underground where the statistics are higher for fatalities, no thanks. I agree we all need a solution but not at the cost of jobs and this state falling apart. Wind mills are a good idea but the environmentalist don't want the birds and bats heads cut off Please people we have to give on something. We pay high fuel prices because a small majority of people stop us from drilling for oor own sources that God gave us to use.

Who is responsible for the flooding out west now, not strip mining it is God
