Am I the only one that thinks that the Gounod version sounds too much like Bach's Prelude in C. In some parts they sound identical.

It's definitely closed with a vent in the bottom center.

Don't know what brand (that is assumining that it isn't a homemade mute or custom job), but it looks and and sounds like a tight cup mute (or closed cup mute), since the "cup" is right up against the bell. You know, Maurice Andre could stick a piece of sewer pipe in his horn and it would STILL sound beautiful!
