yeah. John Mayer's idea of strife is sitting around with his buds drinking slurpees not knowing what to do for the afternoon or with their lives. Which is largely why this song hasn't really got any emotional punch. Basically just a guy doing a few pleasant chords and finger picking with some singing to vary it up.
He knows nothing of the real troubles such as are being experienced in a country called Georgia next to Russia. If he did, his songs would have such intensity you would cry.

the pick is in between his middle and pointer finger. pulls it out underneath with his thumb. brilliant manueverability once you get it down

At the beginning it's definitely finger picking, but towards the strumming section he pulled a plectrum out of who knows where.
