Why does the song have to "mean" anything? I can't stand it when shallow people hear something unusual, and immediately set about searching for the "deeper meaning." This "deeper meaning" invariably consists of the most banal projections they can possibly manage: the song is about sex, or drugs, or suicide--the only things these people can comprehend. Lennon and co. have given you psychedelic imagery needing no interpretation. Just appreciate it for what it is; why try to "get" it?
