Could he beat Duran at a lighter weight? It makes me wonder.
BrooklynSal (August 25, 2008 at 10:28 pm)
I just think he is a little over rated when people say he could beat most the guys of yesterday. It's obvious he could fight.

You seem to know about boxing, why discredit a great fighter in Floyd Mayweather by saying he never fought anybody? MAYBE in the welterweight class, you could make the argument. But he damn near cleaned out every weight class from 140 on down when he was in it. And every fighter he fought was considered great until Floyd beat them. Why is this the case? You might not like him, but you have to give him his props were they are due. A truly great champion of this era.

Corrales could barely make weight.
Castillo was a champion.
Genaro hernadez a big favorite? I don't know about that.
Baldomir. Are you kidding?
Zab Judah gave him all he could handle as long as it lasted, but he is a seven round fighter at best.
Oscar was old but he was not in his prime.
Hatton was an entertaining fighter but was never a p4p fighter not now not ever.
GalactusPBN (August 24, 2008 at 12:54 am)
Corrales was top 10 p4p when floyd fought him
Castillo was a champion
Genaro Hernandez was a long reinging champion and a big favorite when floyd beat him
Baldomir was the linear WW champion
Zab Judah is a good, if wildly inconsistent, fighter
Oscar may have been old, but he had a big size advantage and was a great fighter in his prime.
Hatton was top 10 p4p
In conclusion, floyd has beat alot of good to great fighters in his career, regardless of wether or not pernell would beat him.

Sorry. Floyd gets beat by
Pernell. He was a scientific boxer and was well schooled. Really, who did Mayweather ever beat? Look at the guys Pernell fought. Floyd only fought a few top guys. Gatti was over the hill and Hatton was limited.
juanf88 (August 22, 2008 at 12:46 pm)
no i think ur right. floyd does have faster hands, but pernell has fast reflexes sooooo yea.
cizer77 (August 21, 2008 at 11:14 pm)
Mayweather has said in some interview during a conference for the Hatton match that Whitaker and Pryor would have been his toughest fights, so yes, it would have been something to see. But taking nothing away from Pernell, I think Floyd has slightly faster hands.
