Energy dependence on Persian Gulf countries is America's foremost National Security problem. We are financing our own demise by sending billions of dollars to the people who want to kill us. Radical madrassas that turn kids into homicidal zombies are financed by oil revenues. Radical mosques that preach hate, right here in America, are financed by oil revenues. The old slogan "Live Free or Die" might as well be replaced by "Energy Independence or Death". Support Pickens Plan! Bankrupt Terror!

What would also help america greatly is using our deserts in particular, for solar power panel farms. There is enough non-used land mass in our deserts to power much of the country through solar technology. The government knows this and simply lets it sit there and not serve our best interests, naturally from the sun.

Sounds great! Now educate us on the how-to's. How can my car be converted to natural gas/how much will the conversion cost? Would this apply only to new car purchases? What happens about repairs, can a typical fix-it shop still do my mtc? Where can I fuel up? Those are the most critical distribution channels to get working. Millions of Americans will gladly put our money into this plan. And for y'all who want to argue, this does not have to be the only answer to be a very good answer.

Playing devil's advocate, fork lifts using cng do not collide with other forklifts at 70 mph. I know the tanks on CNG have to be very thick to avoid puncture and explosion.
Your right, there are a few CNG vehicles on the road, what happens when there are millions, with tankers and fueling stations.
These are some of the problems they have to work out not to mention the scale of replacing the whole fleet of US Trucks and cars with CNG. A big job.

What candidate is supporting these ideas...
bassoneman (September 5, 2008 at 3:07 pm)
Utah is at the forefront with this with many vehicals going this route. Please correct me if I am wrong, But I haven't heard of an catastophic explosions. Also Most Fork lifts use CNG again no news..
valhala56 (September 3, 2008 at 9:42 am)
Yeah and CNG gas cars collide into a CNG tanker next to a fuelin station it will look like a nuclear explosion. Probaly take out a couple hundred people. I like Boone Picken's plans but natural gas cars have let's say some safety/explosion problems to get over, not to mention the billions it will cost to convert cars and fueling stations. Scale wise this is like switching all house's and business to solar at once.

What about solar panels on the roof of everybodies house??
Is it affordable? No.
Can it be subsidized?, Yes.
Why can't we have government help to finance solar panels and keep our dollars in America??? |
