Although no instrument is playing, I think this piece is still important. John Cage was trying to say that there is always music happening and that it doesn't need to be intentional to be heard.

Okay assholes, we get it. There's no sound (though the point of the piece was to point out that there's ALWAYS sound [the idea came to him after spending time in a "sound proof" chamber at Harvard, where one can still detect the sound of one's own nervous and circulatory systems in function]). This piece is a just agimmick, of course, but John Cage was a brilliant and innovative composer. Take a listen to the Sonatas and Interludes for prepared piano and his greatness is apparent.

or, we are smart enough to know, that this is bullshit. music is the art form where sound is organised in time. this has sound but it isnt organised there is simply noise.
