they´ve been known to eat children and small adults, maybe the guy got a heatstroke and they got him, or he fell asleep? Komodo´s have a lot of bacteria in their saliva that are poisonous and dont have antibiotics

He was probably killed by a/many Komodo Dragon(s), and then it/they dragged him somewhere quiet to eat him.
