gmod and hl2 aren't very graphically intense, dunno about css and vista mainly drops about 5-15 fps when there's a lot of things to render. try half life 2 ep 2. there were like 2 scenes (the ones with the purple vorts and the end) where my computer shot straight to hell and lagged at half a frame per second through the whole thing. took like 15 minutes for those 2 scenes to get by.

my friend had a celeron 2ghz with 512mb ram and on board graphics running windows vista and he managed to play gmod and hl2. css had some trouble though. i think thats very good considering vista min specs in 512mb ram

no the source engine is terrible at resource management if you have a low end computer. currently I have a computer with 512 mb ram 1.99 ghz single core processor and the geforce 8400 which should be enough to play a game like team fortress 2 on low but it lags like hell especially after loading a new level because it reloads everything. and seriously valve needs to fix their stupid cancel button.

no chance, source is a fantastic engine that allows computers with even the lowest of resources to play high end games.
