Im looking for gruey as well it was ace especially the bit where hes trying to get over that wall.....but he never made that wall (check out the jihnny cash song the wall!!). i,m searching for gruey which i think was on bbc when i was a kid. if it's any help gruey was played by the same guy who was also in a fantastic series when bbc three first came out called burn it. i've searchedeverywhere and can't find anything on either series. i figured if your looking at this then you would possibly be aware of either of what i was talking about. the same age maybe?

I understand your reasonsing. However Humbersoide airport isn't in Humberside, it's in Lincolnshire, and Leeds castle is actually in Essex. Therefore your logic is floored. Plus, and this is the deal breaker, I used to live in Middlesborough and Redcar. That said half the people who lived there didn't know which county it's in. Even the post office doesn't know!

Middlesbrough is clearly in Teesside, the river Tees runs right through it, hence why the football stadium is called the Riverside Stadium.

Middlesborough is in North Yorkshire (about 30 minutes from Whitby), hence the accent. Some people regard it as Teeside, however that ain't true. What gives it a way is that Middlesborough is just on the edge of the North York Moors.

It's definitely Middlesbrough. The books mention specific parts of Middlesbrough, like the railway station on Wilson Street. When they did the Johnny Briggs stories on Jackanory form time to time, you could actually recognise places in the Boro in the illustrations.
