A friend once introduced me to a recording of Ken Nordine. On the recording he discusses a variety of different colors. He describes each as if they were close friends. What struck me as curious was the degree of accuracy in which he captures the true 'character' of each color. In Chroma, I depict individual colors in a textless musical setting. Each movement, none longer than one minute, describes a different color. Rather than the primary and other common colors, I illustrate more 'exotic' colors, such as vermilion and bordeaux. All of the musical material is completely derived from movement six, Sepia. Each of the other nine movements expand and develop some smaller aspect of that exceedingly dense movement.
