As far as I can remember Summer Madness is featured in the film, you can even see Rocky putting the 45 on his turntable.

right but how many of these artists would be known right now if they were not sampled by hiphop producers?? kids nowadays don't even know what records were never mind who recorded them unless its product placement familiarity within a movie or tv show...so dont hate on hiphop cause a lot of people are eating off of it and have been for at least the last 20 years or so...

Kool The Gang recorded and released Summer Madness in 1974. Sylvester Stallone was a huge fan of that track, but there were problems getting it for the movie (maybe it cost too much). Bill Conti was asked to make a similar sounding version to it. In the 70s, a lot of composers for TV and film soundtracks would record sound-alikes of popular tunes when the originals could not be copyright cleared.

I agree with others though, the song is SO quiet and smooth, nice easy listening. Bill Conti is one of my favorite composers. Did anyone else know that he often directs the orchestra at the Oscar ceremonies nowadays?

Ha. "sampled". I hate the idea of sampling. I'd be irked if someone sampled a part of my music, even if permission was given. You work so hard to come up with a really cool melody and harmony, only so someone else uses it for their own purposes. Kind of like how musical artist Timbaland sampled sixteen seconds of Janna Suni's "Acid Jazzed Evening" for his own song in 2006. Very frustrating.
