It saddens me to say that Americans can sometimes be very ignorant. Most countries have signs posted in the local dialect AND in English, particularly in Spain and Mexico. How hard is it to post a sign in two languages? Most of you people that are bitching about this issue have never attempted to learn a second language.I agree that the citizens of this country should learn to speak English. That does not mean that when someone comes to our country that they can magically start speaking English.

And a bilingual salesman can get more sales if he can target Hispanic market.

that's how it is in my neighborhood too. but the kids learn English in school & they are American. Almost all immigrants assimilate by the 2nd generation, it just takes time.

If this Land is the Land of Liberty, all Legal citizens that live and work in this country has RIGHT to express in their own Language or Ideas . America has free speech, no like the communists (One Language, One Way, One Thinking Only)

Collision: yes I speak English, I am bilingual, but I get more pay here in the US just because I speak Spanish. My kids are bilingual they have to speak to me in Spanish, so they don't forget their roots. And I still think many people here are Paranoic with this issue. Period

But it is not a state is a commonwealth of the US. People just don't want to speak English. And if you live in Miami you must know that everybody speaks Spanish, many people doesn't even speak English and they work, you just don't want to admit it, I got family there and I visit often. CNN did a report on that, people in Miami that doesn't speak English.

Let me tell you something. First of all, Puerto Rico is a province of the U.S. therefore, the people there should be learning to speak English. When they come to Florida and go to school, they learn English. I grew up in Miami and don't speak a word of Spanish and I went to public places. I think paranoia is a little overboard when discussing this topic. We are a country of immigrants who all but Spanish speaking have had to learn English to do business. That's not paranoia it's PATRIOTIC.

Catchy and fun tune...
but by rights, shouldn't we all be speaking Miwok, Cherokee, or one of the many other Native American languages that was spoken here before we came?

Try NYC. I went there a while back and perfect English was rare in a land where English should always be spoken. |
