It can't get any better than this, it just can't... Fantastic!

This is knockout! She sings these songs as well as even the magisterial and majestic Crespin (God rest her soul). Thanks for a great great post.

Votre goût musical me renverse !

It's so beautiful the way she has to change the tone when it is the "jeune belle" singing part... this music transports me far far away

Thank you so very much for making this available. I heard her sing this cycle with the St. Louis Symphony over thirty years ago.
It was a performance I will never forget. Priceless! Afterwards,I learned from a friend who knew the conductor and who had attended the dress rehearsal that she was sick with a cold! There will never be another mezzo like Janet Baker.

This woman is the consummate singing actress. I miss her live performances! I am hard pressed to find her equal among today's crop of mezzos.

This is an appropriate conclusion of what, imho, is the greatest song cycle ever composed, at least from the musical standpoint. Even the orchestra does not sound too obtrusive. Overall, among the best renditions of the whole cycle.

I LOVE L'Ile Inconnue but this isn't my favorite rendition... still very good though.

thank you for posting the whole song cycle. i've listened for years to her recording of this --from lp to cd and now to see her sing these songs and witness her expression of the full range of emotions... i'm transfixed. What's up with that audience? Rather restrained response it seems to me. Man, i would have been shouting bloody hallelujahs. I guess modern audience members are way more yahoo than they used to be.
gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous. thank you again. |
