Because it's a game, and it's entertaining? Does this question seriously need to be asked? Perhaps they have no interest in playing the real guitar, but enjoy the game, or perhaps they play the real guitar, and also enjoy the game. The two aren't mutually exclusive. God forbid that people should enjoy a game that's based on a real life activity! All this "well I can play the real thing" nonsense just seems like attention seeking to me.

Exactly. Do you know how many damn people I talk to who say "Yeah, I rock at GH. I'm so awesome." I had them my guitar and tell them to play, and they have no idea how the guitar even works. I actually even had someone ask me why my frets weren't colored.
