as I said it was strange to specifically, and exclusively, mention Buckley's comment as being hilariously immature, since Buckley was only RESPONDING to the immature insults of the other debater! And many people, if accused on-air, of being a Nazi, would actually have reacted far worse than Buckley did! That was why I found it odd,and possibly hypocritical, that you specifically thought it was his conduct that was "hilarious"!

Err yes there can be another type of illiteracy..it's called emotional illiteracy, a metaphor for inability to express or empathise with emotions.

...as if there could be any other type of illiteracy.
blandflabbis (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
Yes, because it's so hypocritical to point out that something a person said was amusing. Under your logic if I were to watch a Morecambe and Wise video and draw attention to a joke made by Eric Morecambe then it would be rampant hypocrisy given that I didn't mention Ernie Wise. At what point this is "hypocritical" of me I have no idea, but perhaps you should look up the meaning of the word before you use it next time, particularly if you're going to call me "linguistically illiterate"

Blandflabbis do you actually have a hobby? I didnt misunderstand your point, I merely pointed out it was hypocritical to mention one of the debaters as being "hilarious", when, in reality, both were equally immature, and,if anything,Vidal was the one in the wrong, who dragged the debate into the gutter! The fact you resort to swearing in your post, reveals you to be as emotionally and linguistically illiterate as you are immature!
blandflabbis (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
Oh please... there is nothing ignorant about pointing out that this video is hilarious and I could just as easily have mentioned Vidal's comment, but the fact of the matter is that Buckley's was the most amusing. I couldn't give a fuck who was "right"; the subject has long ceased to have any political relevance. The fact that you're pathetically trying to "debate" me when your only point stems from a misunderstanding of my post suggests you're either ten years old or a complete fucking idiot.
relarerfhjk (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
I responded the way I did, because you chose to selectively mention only Buckley's comment as being "hilarious" in your post! I merely pointed out that Buckley, being human, was perfectly entitled to respond angrily, when he was accused, live on-air, of being a Nazi! What exactly was "hilarious" about Buckley responding to being insulted?? Most people would have punched Vidal in the head, for that insult! If you made a sensible comment, instead of a pig-ignorant one,I wouldnt have responded to you!
blandflabbis (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
You're reading a point into my comment which wasn't there. My point was that the line is amusing - in a whimsical, nostalgic way - not that Vidal is "right" or that Buckley "started it". This video isn't popular because of its political relevance (the protests at the 1968 DNC are hardly top of the political agenda 40 years later) it's popular because you have two "men of letters" hurling absurd insults at each other. Enjoy it for what it is and stop shouting your mouth off like an idiot.

Thats the problem with members of the Liberal party? Maybe Im a snob since I care about the difference between liberal and Liberal.

Correct. It all emanates from political correctness, ie the left-wing belief that conservative opinions are morally inferior, based on bigotry and can, therefore,be legitimately censored! |
