Deller is a once in a generation singer. His ability to shape his phrases and sound is astounding. What an artist!

If this helps: as written in the Orpheus Britannicus, with this song, "A Single SONG in Edipus", the first iteration of 'eternal' in "Till Alecto free the Dead from their Eternal Bands" lists the sequence as a b flat to c, then the second 'eternal' is a g to a flat.

I grew up listening to Alfred Deller, and am still amazed at his artistry. Tone, phrasing, and enunciation were all at his command. I do still wonder whether that is a semitone or tone at "from their eternal bands." The ambiguity makes his performance all the more poignant for me. Where, now, are his great Vanguard recordings? If only all of them were available on CD's, excellently remastered, and with current program notes.

He really did put countertenors 'on the map'. A well known singer here.
