Oh okay. I guess she likes to be petted. :] Too bad my fish hate me. Dx

I find that harm from the effect of unstressed handling to be overrated. Actually, the more attention (and play) they get, the healthier and more vigorous (and expressive if you pay attention to learn) they become.

Yes, they do-and like our mucus, it is continuous excreted. I am sure that touching has an effect, however I have found that harm from that effect in the context of unstessed handling to be much overrated.

To all them people saying thats it will harm them, if it really was they would swim away from the hand.

im sorry but yall are wrong yes its harmful and yes its ok to do it one its harmfull mainly to wild fish when you touch them that slim is there immune system so when you wipe that off they catch illnesses ok and its ok as long as you keep the water clean and your hands clean i guess (not that it matters)
TheSquishyPenguin (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
But don't they have some sort of protective slime over their scales? I thought cuddling them would wipe it off and thus expose them to diseases. Well, as long as Sweet Pea doesn't seem to be irritated by the contact. Oh, and I call everyone dearie. :B

Touch alone in the absence of stress/fear, w/clean careful hands I find is not inately harmful. When advice, even the oldest, seemingly prudent, seems off or assoc. with other factors rather than causative, I mindfully experiment.
More importantly, fish are alien to folks and mistakenly objectified, causing real harm suffering. I am showing them as feeling sentient creatures in a way that is easily identified.

It is best not to touch the fishies dear. :] As much as you/they may like it, it could hurt them. |
