Glad that everyone is highlighting not only Earnie's hideous power, but Holmes's unbelievable heart. Earnie Shavers... I've met the man, he is the single nicest person you'd ever know. You can all meet him, if you travel to Liverpool (UK). It's amazing that Earnie, having never been a champion is considered a terrifying boxer and has won noteriety as the hardest puncher of all time.

shavers said that was the hardest punch he had ever thrown and the moment it connected he new larry holmes could not possibly get up - but damn it he got up.
you have to respect holmes for that alone never mind his record

Boy that was a right hand!!! that would take out any man, larry proved what a great champ he was to get up from that and go on to win the fight, holmes was a great champion and shavers was unlucky not to have won the belt in his carer, good fight!

Remember this well. That right was out of nowhere in the context of that fight, but bloody hell Shavers had power in the right hand. |
