Its so true! Lets be honest, though, the Greeks only want it because they built the city and want it back, not because it is the economic center it once was.

Ironic, turks take Constantinople, hail it as their greatest accomplishment and the crown jewel of their kingdom, only to go and insult the very people who made the city what it was. Doesn't really matter, istanbul pretty much fits the bill for a "has been" city. The Bosporus hasn't been strategically important in 200 years. Outside of the Hagia Sofia, city isn't worth much at all.

Mehmet.....Osman, EVIL!!! TO be serious, the Turks live in Turkey, and the Greek will never get all of their land back, but they deserve some of it back. In all honesty, Turkey should have no borders with the Aegean sea or Sea of Marmara, and should lose small areas of Pontus.

Meirstein, the Greeks did name it Byzantium, surely in that you are right. And yes, the Romans did name it Constantinople, Constantine was an ethnic Greek, Roman Emperor. And ultimately the Roman Empire, becomes ever more Greek, and renamed, only by historians, the Byzantine Empire. Constantinople is and was a Greek city. Just like Byzantium was.

The United States does not recognize it, you know why, they need the bases in Turkey, and modern strategic needs outweigh the nominal terms of history. Israel, wont piss off anybody, as they arent liked very much. I must agree that Greeks are also bias and nationalist, it is true, but they are still right, that it was a genocide. Although I must say, Greece is surrounded by land-thirsty Slavs(The Yugoslav "Macedonians"), and has tense relations with the comparatively massive Turkish Republic.
