World's Leading Experts on Neonatal Jaundice Discuss Causes, Treatments, Outcomes and Prevention During Live CME Webcast September 21, 2006 at 8:00 AM EDT (12:00 UTC) From Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, PA Jaundice -- one of the most common conditions affecting newborns -- is a yellowing of the skin and eyes that is caused by an elevated bilirubin level in the blood. Bilirubin accumulates when red blood cells break down. Neonatal jaundice affects 60 percent of full-term infants and 80 percent of preterm infants in the first several days after birth.
