It's just an accident of sounds.
Roma Romani (the Gypsies' own words for themselves) have NOTHING to do with 'Romania', 'Rome' or the verb 'to roam'.
It's just a coincidence, for example the Italian word 'Ciao' and the English word 'Chow' (=food) have the same sound, but have very different meanings.

If they are Romanian citizen they have to respect the romanian law as every citizen does.They have rights as every citizen has but they also have obligations.
I do not agree with the fact that when they do a good thing they want to be called gypsies or rroma people, but when they have problems they are romanians. Not every gypsi is a romanian.From the 90es the changed their name into romani , a name which isn't accepted bz all gypsies.This could be why people mistake them with romanians. |
