Religion has been shown to have positive health benefits... if you want citations just ask. However, I know nothing about exorcisms or the possible negative effects they could have psychologically. Like you, I don't believe in "possession". It seems to me that exorcisms today are few and far between, and don't hold much place in the study of religion.
