September In The Rain-Dinah Washington The leaves of brown came tumblin' down, remember In September in the rain The sun went out just like a dying ember That September in the rain To every word of love I heard you whisper The raindrops seemed to play a sweet refrain Though spring is here, to me it's still September That September in the rain

A few years ago, I was sitting in one of those 1950s nostalgia diners (like Johnny Rockets) and was thinking that even "pop" music was sung with so much more passion back then.

Dinah is a wonderful combination of sponteniety and professionalism. Her voice is always natural, unassuming and right in there. She is very missed.

The motives for producing todays music are mostly ugly and cynical and thus this is how the music feels to most folks who know the beauty that music can be. It is not the fault of youth so much as that of those who so cleverly market todays sounds to them. A small child can tell the difference but once the media has had their hooks into kids and uses its magic then its all over and kids don't know how to enjoy and appreciate what they actually do really like, its tragic in its way.

What in the hell ever happened to beautiful music like this? All you hear today is CRAP and you can't spell CRAP without Rap!!

My mother used to play this when I was young. I loved it because my birthday was in September

One of the very best! Brings back so many memories, 'the sun went out just like a dying ember'!

Dinah's version of this song is without a doubt the best ever, you can almost feel the rain falling on your shoulders as the leaves drift by, wonderful, just wonderful.

Hi Breeze9ca I have to agree with you totally. Simplicity and emotion of the song and the superb delivery by Dinah make this piece a work of art. When the hairs on the back of my bristle hearing this masterpiece then I know Im in the presence of genius. Somewhere along the way the music industry lost the blueprint for tunes like this and succumbed to tat. I only wish there were artistes like Ms washington around these days, sheer class.
