In the late seventies Sensei Yahara demonstrated the Crab Claws takedown as a "last chance" technique for the Best Karate series by Nakayama. In 2006 he repeated this takedown as part of his 8th dan grading. This video shows both - firstly the 2005 version, then the early Best Karate version.

So are happy pills. Keep taking them. Shotokan karate? There are some good practioners who know what they are doing. They also know how to use it and know the CORRECT use of the kata. I havent known of ONE japanese practioner who knows the use of kata other than some Okinawans.

Shotokan karate is about improving yourself all life long. Getting good discipline and good confidence in yourself for daily happy life. What does it have to do with mma sport?

yeah put him in the cage with a decent vale tudo fighter, he could even wear his nice white gi. Although it will change colour from white to brown to red and end up shredded. Hate to see what colour he would be if they brought him out of the cage, after the event.

I've seen it use by Cung Le in MMA. But personally I would not use this technique in combat. It's too complicated for me to drill, so I'm unable to cleanly execute it. More importantly, I don't want to be on the ground and expose my self to secondary attackers.

thats a judo technique called Kani Basami. of course, the move is banned now from judo tournaments for safety issues. BUt ive used it done this move before and its quite effective, but kinda tricky to pull off.

MMA... Why does it always as to come to this? MMA is a nice sport, but it is not a martial art, and is not for survival. Now remember this is just exihibition, part of the martial *ART* is to show your technique and knowlegde. I doubt Yahara-sama would use this in a real encounter (but he defenetly could do it), but that's not the point of this video. It's showcasing technique.

Ignorant. MMA didnt teach you shit about Karate. Point sparring fools who got their ass whooped are not Karate, they are simply bad kickboxers. Karate comes partly from Te, aka Tegumi.. or Okinawan Wrestling. Also containing concepts of combination attacks called continus fist, in reality karate has more logical responses than expected. And Bruce?? WTF? How can he abandon kung fu entirely when he claimed to already do so? He said it best himsef, A punch is a punch a kick is a kick.
