Bach's Concerto for Four Harpsichords and String Orchestra in A minor is an adaptation from around 1730-1733 of Vivaldi's B minor Concerto for Four Violins and String Orchestra in B minor, No. 10/3. Bach had gotten to know Vivaldi's Op. 3 while an organist at Weimar, where he transcribed ten of them for solo harpsichord and six of them for organ. This later adaptation is far more ambitious. In it, Bach has both tightened and expanded Vivaldi's counterpoint, enriched his harmonies with lusher harmonies, and expanded the solo parts with greater complexity and greater clarity. The result is a work that not only avoids the criticism of being too thickly textured, but actually improves on the original work. Written in the standard three-movement concerto form of the Baroque period, Bach's Concerto for Four Harpsichords is a brilliant virtuoso piece for the soloists. __________________ _____________________ .

I see Fabio Biondi there...hehe, he must cringe hearing the others play in such a non-baroque manner.

I think I prefer this on harpsichord. The notes of a piano linger a bit too long, and with four of them going at once, it becomes difficult to ignore...

Sarah Chang and Gidon Kremer. Don't know the other two.

Sincerely, Il Giardino plays Bach thinking in Vivaldi. In my opinion, they cannot play Bach as italian music, even this BWV 1065 concert is from Vivaldi. Bach is German, lutheran and austere. We cannot wrong concepts: sobriety is not like boredom. Nevertheless, I am an enthusiastic supporter of Il Giardino and their fresh and passionate musical concept, but above all for Italian music. I think this style is not valid for everything. [Sorry, Perico, I know you aren't agree with this]

hi Langlois! I've tried to answer you several times but it is not possible write websites or mail addresses. Visit the Verbier Festival website (com) and clic in contact. Or also, look for Amazon reference for this DVD (attached with the info in this video). I've looked for that in Bach-Cantatas website but unfortunately I've not got found anything about this orchestra. I hope this can help you. Greetings from Spain!

Thank you for your response - I, however, only see the names of the pianists on the information. Is there somewhere else I should be looking? Thanks.
